They jacked it from the Scooby gang and painted it a non-descript warm grey.
I drew the van without reference material, I just kinda pulled it out of my head. I guess all those repeated viewings of Scooby-Doo from the time I was 2 until I was about 12 actually impacted my drawing abilities in a negative way.
Let that be a lesson to future cartoonists!!!!
DON'T WATCH CRAP!!! It will get into your head and you wil draw that way. You have been warned.

I googled Segar's Popeye and came up a ton of stuff, but none of it was archived comics. You could try your local library. Look for the Smithsonian Collection of Newspaper Comics. There is a great Popeye story in there that ran only on sundays. Segar was nuts, he'd often have a totally different story running on sundays that had nothing to do with the daily strip. I'd highly reccommend the Smithsonian book. That is where I saw a lot of old comics for the first time. There is an amazing Floyd Gottfredson Mickey story in there as well. This book was the cornerstone of my comics education.

Last Segar note:
Paul!! If you live in LA, go immediately to the Hammer museum. They have an exhibit of newspaper comic originals that is spectacular! Including some Segar Popeyes!!! It closes on the 12th, so go today!!!!

Mystery Machine...Ha!

Hey I noticed that you used some Photoshop coloring in this strip. I have to say that it doesn't fit with the looseness of the drawings. I did the same for my strip and it sticks out like a sore thumb. I think I'm giving the PS stuff. To me you can always tell because it looks like spraypaint.

I gotta agree with you skribbl. I often use Photoshop to clean up the lettering, clarify a drawing here and there, but I kind of went overboard on panel one. It won't happen again. I don't really like the effect either.
